There is a Youtuber named “Freelee the Banana Girl: who eats upwards of 30 bananas every day and nothing else. While eating one type of food may sound like a way that you could lose weight it is truly not a good idea. The idea has been around for many decades, and some actors have even used this plan to lose weight quickly for a certain role. Apparently, actor Matt Damon ate only chicken breasts to lose weight for a particular movie role.
Is the Mono Diet Effective?
Anytime you hear about some new diet that says you will lose weight fast you will probably be tempted to give it a try. The problem is that crash diets are not really worth the time or effect.
This plan is particularly over the top because you are eating just one food item and nothing else. Just because actors use this type of program or you think you will lose a ton of weight does not mean that this plan is the right type of diet for anyone.
The mono diet can be created with any type of fruit, vegetable or any food at all. People who believe in this diet say that it works well because your body only has to digest one type of food and this means that the body does not have to metabolize as many nutrients, so less digestive enzymes are needed for the entire process. This means your body does not have to work as hard and it is said that this will eliminate bloating and maximize the absorption of nutrients by the body.
Your body is satisfied with fewer calories and might even eliminate those nasty junk food cravings. There is no solid proof that this is an effective weight loss plan, with no scientific research to back up the claims of people who say that it works.
It sounds reasonable in theory, but be honest with yourself, could you really eat just one food every day for many weeks?
Does the Mono Diet Lead to Weight Loss?
What attracts people to try and use this diet is the fact that it can result in significant weight loss very quickly because the intake of calories tends to be significantly low.

While you are going to lose weight following this diet, you will probably suffer from malnourishment, and you may lose some muscle. The loss of muscle will lead to a lower metabolism which will make it harder for you to lose weight in the future since muscle is the main body mechanism that burns calories.
This also means that any weight that you manage to lose following such a heavily restricted diet will be regained once you return to your normal eating patterns.
